There are lots of ways to define core values, but some of the things that we think are important are:
THE BIBLE– It is the compilation of 66 books authored over thousands of years by dozens of authors that tells one story: a loving God on a relentless mission to redeem His creation. The Bible is the authoritative and inspired Word of God and is trustworthy and reliable for teaching us what to believe and how to live.
THE GOSPEL – The Gospel is the story of Jesus found in the New Testament in Matthew, Mark, Luke, & John. The Gospel means “Good News.” It tells the story of how we became separated from God through our Sin that began in the Garden of Eden. The consequences of our sin was and is death. The Good News is that God sent His son to live a perfect life and die in our place to make the payment for our sin. By accepting his sacrifice on our behalf and submitting our lives to His leadership we can receive abundant and eternal life now.
AUTHENTICITY – Jesus did not avoid tough subjects, He talked about what people were thinking.
RELEVANT COMMUNICATION – Jesus talked in parables and used illustrations that people would understand. We must use modern vocabulary, technology, and popular media to communicate the Gospel in a clear and compelling way. Jesus dealt with the common issues of the day that the people in the crowd were dealing with. We must interact with the felt needs of our attenders as well as those we hope to reach in order to leverage the design God created in all people to lead them back to Him.
HOPE – When Jesus spoke, he offered hope and targeted those who most needed that message. He compared himself to a doctor for the sick.
LOVE – Love people when they least expect it . . . and least deserve it. Jesus often shocked those for whom he showed love. The Bible says they will know us by our love, and I believe it is precisely this love that will open people’s hearts and minds to the life changing message of Christ.
PRAYER – We can do a lot of good things without God. Churches do it all the time. But if we want people to see a supernatural God, we must live it out in our own lives and then teach it to others, through the stories of answered prayer. If we don’t do it they will know it, and while we may add numbers, we cannot build His church. Jesus said He will build his church.
HEALING – We live in a broken culture where so many people struggle with loneliness, addictions, broken families, depression, and financial despair. Jesus continually went to those most in need of some kind of healing. When people find new life in Christ and experience freedom from their brokenness they will go and tell others just like the woman at the well.
STORY TELLING – When any man is in Christ he is a new creation; the old has gone; the new has come. Life change makes a great story. We must retell our stories of life change, and through those stories many will believe.
